DSP-Developmental Soccer Program

Volunteer Screening Guidelines and Policies

Why do we screen?

DSP strives to ensure our youth soccer players are protected. In recent years, concern about protecting children and other vulnerable individuals in Canada has intensified. The “Duty of Care” concept is a legal principle that identifies the obligations of individuals and organizations to take reasonable measures to care for and protect their clients.

Results of the DSP Risk Assessment

DSP has been identified as a Low Risk program. The following are the screening requirements:

1        All coaches must complete and sign a DSP Volunteer Application form.

2        The Ontario Soccer Association does not require a Police Record Check (PRC) for low risk programs; however

a.      All coaches without children in the program will require a recent and valid PRC

3        All first year coaches MUST take a club coach-training course.

4        All DSP coaches must take a training course a minimum of every two years.

5        The club encourages and will pay for coaches to take OSA Community Coaching Courses http://www.ontariosoccer.net/Coach/NewCoachCoursesForOntario.aspx

6        Reference checks are required for all volunteers whose family is new to the club.

Confidentiality of Personal Information
