The Ottawa Internationals Women's So-Fit program offers mothers, aunts and older sisters of Club members, or any female that is interested, with an opportunity to improve their fitness level and learn more about the game of soccer.
This popular program will run for 20 weeks commencing on Saturday April 14th and running through to August 25th. The program is designed for beginning soccer players or players who are returning to the game after a relatively long layoff. It is focused is on fitness with the soccer ball and will be held on our new Artificial turf field located at Hillcrest High School on Smyth Road from 10 AM to 12 noon.
There are no prerequisites, or even knowledge of the game required to participate. You will acquire this knowledge as soccer rules will be taught along with fitness and skills development. Training will be conducted by highly qualified and motivated instructors under the guidance of our Club Head Coach Roy Hillier MPE, MBE.
The instructors will put the players through some fundamental drills: passing, receiving, shooting, dribbling, ball control, and heading. The players will also learn some tactics in game play: give and go, moving into space, crossing the ball, and attacking the net.
The sessions will typically involve 90 minutes of fitness followed by a 30 minute scrimmage (game). The scrimmages will also function as fitness sessions so there will be no loss of emphasis on fitness in the program. The length of the scrimmages may increase as the season progresses if the instructors feel it would benefit the group.
First-timer jitters are common at So-Fit, and they usually last about five minutes, or as long as it takes to kick a ball a few times, make your first pass or master the fine art of dribbling between pylons. With all the players learning skills and rules together, there's no pressure to perform and lots of support and coaching. It usually takes less than one hour of So-Fit soccer for a participant to get hooked on the program and the game. And as a by-product, you become fitter, sorer, but happier.
The cost for this 20 week program is only $195, which includes HST. Players new to the program will also be required to purchase an inexpensive uniform set, including 2 numbered jerseys (one red and one white) and a pair of shorts and socks in order to quickly make teams for the scrimmages. There is a section on the registration form to order uniforms. All players are required to bring a fully inflated soccer ball to each session. Balls can be obtained from the club through the registration process for $15. Players will need to have soccer cleats as well as shin pads.
